Julie comes to us with over 35 years dental hygiene experience. She has been with us for the last 14 years. Julie appreciates the high quality of dentistry that Newaygo Family Dental Care offers. Julie has a good sense of humor and tries to keep the mood light- having a great bunch of girls to work with makes it easy. When she isn't at the office you can find her spending time with her four wonderful grandchildren or stalking moles in her back yard. She has caught better than 80 moles over the last few years!
Tammy has worked with Dr. Nelson for the past 23 years. "It is very exciting to work for a dental practice that keeps up with all the new technology advancements to provide excellent dentistry for its patients". Tammy is married to Tom and they have 4 children Alisha, John, Trent and Taylor. Alisha and her husband Bryan blessed their family with the birth of their first grandchild named Luke on April 30, 2012. Tammy and Tom enjoy family time, reading, walking and traveling.
Jen is a Hudsonville High School graduate. In 2003, Jen married her husband, Chris and moved to nearby Rockford. They added to their family first with their yellow lab, Emma. Since then they have grown in size with 2 boys, Carsen & Jaydon, and one precious little girl named Peyton. Jen has been an RDH for 11 years, 8 of which she has spent taking care of patients with Dr. Nelson (and loves it!). She enjoys scrapbooking, landscaping, running, and spending time with family. She loves to build relationships with each and every patient
Christa is an energetic addition to our hygiene team. Christa graduated from Ferris State University. She has a very outgoing personality and really enjoys meeting new patients, and especially enjoys working with children. In her spare time, Christa loves to spend time with family and friends, travel, and follow a healthy lifestyle. As of Semptember of 2016 Christa is now a married woman!
Roxanne, Dental Assistant
Roxanne has been with us since late 2011, Roxanne has integrated herself into our practice very well. She is a fabulous asset to many of our patients as she speaks fluent Spanish! Roxanne absolutely loves all the technology we utilize and has a keen interest in dentistry, especially Oral Surgery and Orthodontics. In her spare time Roxanne likes to crochet, read, and spend time with her 2 kids, Rosie and Gabriel. Keep your eye out for Roxy at all the Grant School sporting events.
Sue has been a dental assistant for 25+ years and brought her expertise to our old office in Grant when she joined our team in 2004. She was delighted when we opened our new facility in 2011. Sue likes the "family atmosphere" of our practice and the great team she works with. In her free time, Sue and her husband Jim take pride in making the claim of being Michigan State's #1 (and 2) fan and loves watching them beat Michigan in both basketball and football sporting events!! ;) Sue and Jim have 8 children, and a growing brood of grandchildren!

Melissa is also one of our assistants, having been with us since late 2011. Since joining our practice she has found a nice niche in patient care. Melissa finds dentistry interesting and loves getting to know our patients. Outside of the office, Melissa is married to her husband Kurt, they just welcomed their first baby boy, Noah! They enjoy camping, kayaking and spending time with her family (especially the little guy!) and their dog Lilly.
Sue, Insurance Coordinator
Sue joined our team as the Insurance / Treatment Coordinatior in 2014. Sue comes to us with lots of previous experience in another dental office. Sue is our resident baby whisperer (she loves the kids!) Outside the office, Sue is married to her husband Karl of almost 40 years. They are Newaygo natives. They have two grown children and four grandchildren, Harrisen, Carter, Tes and Ryann Estelle. Sue loves traveling the countryside and exploring history. Together with her husband they enjoy kayaking, local breweries and reading. Sue also loves unique jewelry and sporting her "crazy colored" glasses!
Dr. Dennis Nelson
Dr. Dennis Nelson, a native of Grant, graduated from Grant High School in 1966. After serving in the US Army, Dr. Nelson completed his undergraduate studies at Central Michigan University and went on to graduate from the University of Michigan School of Dentistry in 1978. Upon commencement, he was presented with the Francis B. Vedder Society Award for excellence in Crown and Bridge Prosthodontics. He returned to his hometown and maintained a successful practice which was opened in 1980, until his son, Dr. Ross Nelson, joined him in 2011 to run and manage a state-of-the-art facility in nearby Newaygo.

After graduating from Newaygo High School in 2003 and following his father's educational route, Dr. Ross Nelson joined the family practice. He brings with him the benefit of another University of Michigan School of Dentistry degree signifying a unit of excellence that can be provided only be such a respected center of learning. Dennis and Ross work hard to embrace the latest technology for the continued benefit, comfort, and safety of their patients and staff. Both doctors hold a firm belief that the best care is provided when technology is melded with exceptional dental skills and practices.
